You were stylish, beautiful, soulful, smart, funny and a true mentor to me.
I was the first of your grandchildren and our bond was forever made the day I was born.
You had 5 children of your own including my mom. Your 2 youngest daughters, Khadijah and Michelle are truly my sisters.
My mom worked long hours to provide for us, so you would take care of me during the week.
You were the first to show me how to cook. You would make fresh meals from scratch every day. But being the southern woman you were, everything was fried! But growing up, it didn’t matter. It was the love you put into cooking that made the difference. We would sit around the dinner table and eat as a family. That meant the world to a little girl whose mom worked and dad wasn’t there.
You were also the one who gave me the spiritual connection to the heavens. You had an energy and a spirit that connected her spiritually. And you shared your energy and her heart with me.
I can remember distinctly. One day, you sat me down and you said. “You are special. And can do anything in life you want”.
As a little girl, I didn’t know what that meant. But as a woman, I now know that the conversation would change my course forever.
I’ve been able to accomplish so much in my life. You believed in me. And I now believe in me.
Thank you, grandma, for your blessing you have given me. I will always love you with all of my heart and soul.
May God continue to look over your soul high in the heavens. I miss you!
